Metro Councilman says he has an easy way to lower gas prices

Metro Councilman Doug Hawkins says there's an easy way to lower local gas prices -- get rid of the special gas Louisville residents are forced to use.

Since 1993, Louisville has had to use reformulated gas, or RFG, which is supposed to reduce ozone pollution in the summer months.

Hawkins claims the gas adds 25-40 cents to the cost of each gallon.

He says the state voluntarily uses RFG to appease the federal EPA, but could go back to standard gas immediately, without penalty.

Hawkins will introduce a resolution Thursday night asking the full Metro Council to support an end to RFG use.
