Major Kentucky road project delayed

Unacceptable.  That's what some business owners and residents say about the delay of a major road project.

The delay is for the section of Kentucky 22 east of the Snyder, between Chamberlain Lane and Murphy Lane.

The North East Louisville Business Association is holding a meeting next week to try to get some answers.

Business owners and residents along Kentucky 22 east of the Snyder are concerned about the plans to delay the widening of the road.  The highway narrows from four lanes to two causing bottlenecks during the morning and afternoon rush hour.

The widening was supposed to be completed in 2006 but delays in acquiring land for the right of way pushed the project back.  Now the state says because of the budget crunch the project will be delayed even longer from 2009 to 2010.

The area is rapidly growing.  Norton Healthcare is building a new hospital and the road is near the Norton Commons housing development.

The Worthington Fire Department is building its 3rd fire station.  But its chief worries that if the widening project is delayed, its fire trucks will get stuck in traffic, creating a safety problem.

The business association in the area wonders if further growth here will be slowed by the lack of adequate highways.

The meeting next Tuesday starts at 5:30 at the Northeast Christian Church along Highway 22.

Some residents may think slowing growth in the area would be a good thing.  They too will get a chance to speak at the meeting.
