Bus Back to School Tour arrives at Waterfront Park

A large crowd gathered at Waterfront Park Tuesday morning for the seventh annual Bus Back to School Tour put on by national radio personality Russ Parr and radio station B-96.

Several bands and comedians took to the stage.   Metro Councilman David Tandy sponsored the event.  He says he's glad kids are excited to come out and enjoy the tour: "What we're trying to do is to encourage them to keep that excitement going throughout the school year -- to be ready to learn, ready to lead, sit in the front of the class, because that's where the learning and education happens.  And nothing good happens when you're in the back of the pack trying to follow somebody, you want to be in the front, moving you, your family, and the community forward."

Tuesday's show was moved to Waterfront Park after the event got out of hand last year.  Dozens of people were overcome by heat.

Others got rowdy, throwing bottles and fighting.  Police had to be called to disperse the crowd.
