Ground broken on Charlestown High School

School officials and community leaders have broken ground on a new $40 million school --Charlestown High School.

When the new school is complete in late 2010, it will include two new student wings, a gymnasium, and a new media center.

A new swimming pool and auditorium were cut from the original design plans to save about $65 million.

Bob McEwen, GCCS Board President, explains, "Basically, we're now at $99 million and basically, that million dollars did affect some of things that we will have in Charlestown.  But when the project is complete it will be a shining star for Clark County."

The improvements are part of a three-part project to upgrade Jeffersonvile, New Washington, and Charlestown High Schools.  Overall, most seemed impressed by the design of the school.
