Police warn fairgoers to take precautions to keep from becoming victims of thieves

While you're enjoying the fair, you could become a target for thieves.

Kentucky State Police and Louisville Metro Police are warning fairgoers to lock up their valuables.

They say the fair provides a good opportunity for thieves to break into cars.  But there are simple things you can do to prevent from becoming a victim.

Sgt. Steve Hall with Louisville Metro Police says, "They may buy something in the market area and take it back to the car.  They dont' secure it in the trunk -- if they have an SUV they don't cover it in the back, cell phones, laptops, purses, even the CDs, if you put all the valuable stuff in the trunk.  Don't forget CDs, they will break into your car for that."

Police also say to lock your car and take your keys with you.  They will have undercover officers around the parking lots looking for people trying to break into cars.
