Jefferson County Schools obtain dog to track lost children

The disappearance of a child that turned into a murder case led Jefferson County School officials to arrange for a dog that can track lost children.

The system was demonstrated Friday at a local middle school.

The dog and his handler had to find a child who was hiding.  After catching a sniff of the child's clothing, the trainer set the dog on the child's trail.  Within just a few minutes, the dog found the child.

Jennifer Jordan Hall, the dog's handler, explains, "I'm excited for the school system, because this is really cutting-edge. There's only a couple other schools that do this in the country, and more schools are going to start doing it, you'll see it happening more and more."

The effort to obtain the search dog came about because of the Cesar Ivan Aguilar Cano murder case.

School officials say they have about sixty children a year who go missing, generally on their way to or from school.
