Champion Country Ham at the Kentucky State Fair sold for $200,000
The Champion Country Ham went for $200,000 Thursday morning. That's more than $11,000 a pound.
Republic Bank and Trust bought the Champion ham. Bank founder Bernard Trager says the money raised from the ham will go to multiple charities, including healthcare, education, and improving area parks.
He says the idea is to, "Tie each park in to other parks so, in fact, we'll have a circle of parks around our entire community -- something that maybe 40, 50, 70, 80, 90, or 100 years ago we did Seneca, Cherokee, and parks of that nature so all the citizens can enjoy."
Mr. Trager says he will donate the ham to a local hospital.
