Breastfeeding Partners

Local nurse Charissa Shea is making it her business to make breastfeeding easier.  She hopes to turn around a statistic that says Kentucky is at the bottom of the list for breastfeeding.

Shea is a registered nurse who makes house calls as part of her business, Breastfeeding Partners.

The latest numbers show 48% of babies born in Kentucky were ever breast fed.  That's according to the Centers for Disease Control, which shows Kentucky ranks second to last in the nation.

As a nurse and a mother of four herself, Shea knows firsthand the benefits of breastfeeding.  Breastfeeding is basically free and if people use formula, they should plan to spend over $100 a month.

Shea says once moms get through those first few weeks, they're faced with a new problem.  They don't want to quit nursing.
