Louisville middle school student who collapsed during race leaves hospital

A Louisville middle school student is out of the hospital after collapsing during a cross country race.

The Newburg Middle School sixth grade student was racing at Atherton High School when it happened.

A Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman says the sixth grader was conscious when taken to Kosair Children's Hospital.

This comes less than a week after PRP high school football player Max Gilpin died of complications from heat stroke after he collapsed at practice.

The school system and Metro Police are investigating the 15-year-old's death.
