Sony recalls more than 400,000 Vaio laptops

Many of the nation's retailers struggled with a sluggish back to school season, but not Wal-Mart.  The retailer posted higher August sales - topping Wall street forecasts.

Consumers continue to largely stick to buying necessities.

The monthly sales numbers are a bad sign for the holiday shopping season.  Many retailers entered the fall season with slim inventories, but larger reductions may now be required because of the weak sales.

11 more retailers are taking Simplicity brand baby bassinets out of their stores.  The consumer product safety commission is warning parents to stop using the Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 bassinets.  The move comes after two babies ' deaths were blamed on the product.

Retailers have agreed to give customers store credit.  So far, 17 outlets have stopped selling the bassinets.

Sony is recalling more than 400,000 Vaio laptops in its TZ series because of a wiring flaw that may cause overheating.  The recall includes 19 models manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008.

Sony has received more than 200 reports of overheating.  In seven cases - people received minor burns.

As of next week, there will be only department store where you can buy Tommy Hilfiger sportswear.  That's when the exclusive marketing deal with Macy's begins.

Shoppers will see more of the brand available in the stores.  And more Macy's across the country will carry the sportswear.

Hilfiger plans to make an appearance at certain Macy's locations and there will be several in-store promotions.

Other Hilfiger products will continue to be sold in other stores.
