Kentucky congressman pushes for bill helping college students with health insurance

A Kentucky congressman is pushing for a bill that helps college students who lose their health insurance when they're too sick to go to school.

Third District Congressman John Yarmuth was at Bellarmine University Friday to bring attention to "Michelle's Law."

It's a bill that will close a loophole that causes college students to lose their health insurance when they are too sick or injured to go to class.

It's named for a 20-year-old college student who kept a full class load while undergoing chemotherapy so she wouldn't lose her health insurance.  Congressman Yarmuth explained, "All around the country, severely ill students who are able to stay on their kids' health insurance so long as they are enrolled in college full-time must make the choice of foregoing their insurance or continuing a workload that they are physically unable to complete."

The bill has passed in the House and is up for consideration in the Senate.
