Person fatally shot in broad daylight near 24th and Maple
Metro Police are looking for the person responsible for the city's latest homicide. It happened in broad daylight.
Police got a call about a shooting near 24th St. and Maple. Witnesses say they heard several shots.
Police say the victim, who was described as a black male in his early 20s, was alert and oriented when police arrived.
Police say the victim was shot multiple times and was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Community Activist Christopher 2X says a teenage member of the Women Against Street Violence organization heard the shots and saw 8 or 9 young men run away from the scene.
"We don't believe that the victim is a resident of this location, just that he was shot in front of this location," said Alicia Smiley, an LMPD Spokesperson.
The victim's bicycle remained at the scene, while homicide detectives used metal detectors to look for additional evidence. Police are looking for one suspect, though they do not have a good description.
Anyone with information is urged to call the anonymous police tipline at 574-LMPD.
