Preparations in full swing for Ryder Cup

Valhalla is just about ready to host the big show.  Practice rounds for the Ryder Cup will start early next week.  And even though the event has been sold out for more than a year, there is a way for everyone to participate.

Tuesday's rainfall made the grass at Valhalla seem a little greener.  More than 60 greenskeepers are making sure the course is in the best shape ever for golfers.

Workers in golf carts ride along side heavy construction equipment to get the event ready for the public.

Ben Rubin with the PGA says, "We probably have about 600 to 700 people here, and the next week three times that, as the caterer gets their staff on site with all the concession stands and the catering areas

Some of corporate America's biggest names have chalets along the course to entertain guests.  Inside, they are just about ready.

One of the biggest of the more than 200 tents is the media center.  Rubin says, "About 1500 media will be here, that's the largest media center we've ever built for a golf tournament, so it's pretty significant."

20 miles from the course, at 4th Street Live, the countdown continues.  It is there where the entire community is invited for the Cup Experience.

All you need is a Cup Pin to get in.  That costs $3 if purchased in advance.  Karl Schmitt of the Cup Experience says, "At 4th Street Live, we'll have concerts for five nights starting on Wednesday of Ryder Cup week and going through Sunday.  And we'll also have a pep rally for the U.S. team on Thursday night to cheer on the U.S. team.

It seems the whole world will be watching.  Schmitt says, "This is the largest media event that will ever take place in the state of Kentucky -- 600 million people worldwide will see the Ryder Cup."

And Metro Mayor Jerry Abramson says, "You can't put a value on the advertisement for Louisville as the world watches the Ryder Cup.

Everything is said to be on schedule, so Valhalla should be ready for the 40,000 spectators who will arrive there in a week.

Fox 41 will cover all the action of this international event.

Join us for "Fox 41, Live from the Ryder Cup" all next week at 7:30 p.m.

We'll have all the action from Valhalla, show you what's happening behind the scenes, and give you access to VIP areas.

That's all next week on Fox 41.
