Fast-moving crews prevented florist fire from spreading

Fast moving fire crews help keep a local flower shop from becoming a total loss. Firefighters say flames shot out of the back of Mathis florist at Bank and 25th Street just after 6 pm.

Crews arrived on the scene in less than a minute and discovered heavy smoke and fire in the greenhouses out back.

A witness says she's grateful there's a fire house right around the corner.

"It's a really good thing that they're this close. I mean they're right there on Portland Avenue, and if they hadn't been, it would have been a whole lot worse," said Deidre Durbin, witness.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are now looking into the cause of the fire.
