Because of the large number of people without power in Clark County Indiana, the Red Cross there has opened an emergency shelter.

A family was waiting for help when the shelter at the First Christian Church on Middle Road opened at six p.m.

About 70 others arrived at dusk.  They were living at Haven House, Jeffersonville's homeless shelter, which is among facilities which have lost electricity.

Clark County Red Cross volunteers have been busy this month.  Many of them worked in Louisville after a shelter was opened to assist New Orleans hurricane evacuees.
