Metro Police, National Guard team up on busy intersections

Many traffic lights are still out, but Metro Police and the National Guard are teaming up to control busy intersections.

At Grinstead and Lexington Road, Metro Corrections officers are also helping to keep traffic moving.  Officers will focus their efforts on high volume traffic areas without power.

Police, fire, and other first responders are being stretched thin, which is forcing departments to use all their resources.  LMPD Det. Phil Russell explains, "We're utilizing our recruits, this is a great way for them to get trained during the police academy, is to assist our officers in traffic control, but we're getting some great assistance, thankfully, from Metro Corrections as well as the National Guard units."

LMPD is asking everyone to stay off the roads unless absolutly necessary, to keep traffic down.
