Jeffersonville's River Valley Middle School sheltering people without power
People without power are getting help from shelters and food banks across Kentuckiana. River Valley Middle School in Jeffersonville was transformed into a shelter this week.
Thursday morning, Red Cross and other volunteers served a hot breakfast of biscuits, eggs, sausage, gravy, and French toast. The shelter fed 700 people Wednesday and Red Cross representatives expect to feed even more Thursday.
Superintendent Tony Bennett says the food being served was for the school, but would have gone to waste if they didn't cook it. This was the first hot meal for many people without electricty.
Gregory Millspaugh of Jeffersonville said, "We were having to try to go around and do with what we had in the house to eat sandwiches."
Dinner will be served from 4 to 6:30 Thursday night at the River Valley Middle School, with breakfast and lunch served Friday.
