Red Cross in need of blood

The wind storm has also taken a major hit on Kentuckiana's blood supply.

The Red Cross is holding a community wide storm relief blood drive to help replenish the stock.

There is about a half day's supply of blood for the area.

Several blood drives were cancelled due to power outages.

As a result about 1,000 units of blood have been lost and the community is using donated blood from other areas.

The Red cross says the low inventory situation will get worse before it gets better.

That has many people rolling up their sleeves to donate.

"I'm a soldier think giving blood is important not only for local but overseas not only local but overseas," said Brandon Duby.

KFC has also donated chicken, mashed potatoes and other food for people who donate blood today.

The drive lasts until 7 Friday night at the Executive Inn Hotel on Phillips Lane.
