Slight delay on arena site demolition

Finishing up demolition on Louisville's new downtown arena is going to take a little longer than planned, but the contractor is eager to begin actual construction.

The job of tearing down the old LG&E substation is progressing.  But it's taking longer than expected to separate metals and other materials being sold for scrap.

Instead of the end of September, it may be mid-October before the demolition phase is finished.  But the main contractor is already on site, preparing to begin early foundation work.

During its monthly meeting, the Arena Authority was told that so far 26% of workers on the site are minorities or women-owned businesses.  That is well above the authority's goal of 20% minority participation.
