Drug toss available through this weekend to toss items safely

Louisville is once again helping residents properly dispose of expired or unused medications. This weekend is the fourth Drug Toss.

You can take your expired pills, unsealed syrups, eye drops and nose sprays to several drop off locations to be disposed of the right way.

These items should never be flushed or poured down a drain.

"Most of the treatment plants do not treat for medication. They're treating for waste and that will go on and pass through the systems and back out into the streams and back into our drinking water," said Tim Tyree, Metro Solid Waste.

At the spring toss, more than 700 pills were properly disposed of and nearly 250 pounds of pill containers were recycled.

The drug tosses last through the weekend. You can drop off medications at any of the locations.
