The Courier-Journal's website reports that 51 employees have been laid off.  The layoffs are part of cutbacks by the paper's parent, Gannett.

The site says 17 of the 51 people who are leaving agreed to take a severance package.  Courier-Journal president and publisher Arnold Garson said in a memo quoted on the site that 18 other positions will be left open.
