Kragthorpe? Maybe. The Cards? Definitely. (12/18/08)
It's no secret U of L Head Football Coach Steve Kragthorpe isn't exactly Mr. Popularity after a second disappointing year of too many losses and no bowl bids.
Despite all the howls on sports talk radio and Internet message boards, like it or not, there's no question he will be back at the helm again next fall.
In this matter, Tom Jurich is The Decider, and he has decided. And it's time for U of L fans - note I didn't say Kragthorpe fans or Jurich fans, but U of L fans - to ease up on the threats of attendance boycotts and season ticket cancellations and live with it.
Sure, the casual and fair-weather fans - those who haven't been part of the hard-core faithful for years, and who only support guaranteed winners - might stay away. But those with memories that go back more than a few years will see the much bigger picture and continue to support the team.
However you feel about this situation, Tom Jurich is no fool. And his track record so far should be enough to earn him the benefit of the doubt.
If you want to give up on the team, that's certainly your right. But success will return some day - either under Kragthorpe or someone else. And when it does, it'll be lots sweeter to those who've hung in there through the good times and the bad.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my...Point of View.
