Support group rushes to hospital to offer comfort

Four police chaplains from both sides of the river are comforting officers and relatives as they wait for word on the conditions of the wounded officers.

Jeffersonville Mayor Tom Galligan also arrived at University Hospital on Thursday night and went into the emergency room.

Members of the Supporting Heroes group, which offers comfort and support to families of law enforcement and other emergency responders, also arrived at the hospital.

They included Tara Denzinger, the wife of Floyd County sheriff's Deputy Frank Denzinger.  He was ambushed and fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in June 2007.  He was shot by a 15-year-old boy who later killed himself. Denzinger's partner also was shot, but survived.

Also present was Rebecca Grignon. She and her husband Peter had just celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary when Peter, a Louisville police officer, was gunned down on the job in March of 2005. A 17-year-old shot him before taking his own life.
