The Wake-Up Call documentary is a film about the homicide rate in Louisville, KY among the African-American community. In 2007, there were 81 homicides in Louisville. The majority of these murders happen in the west side of Louisville. During the spring of 2008, I decided something should be done in order to bring more awareness to what was going on in the city. With the help of Pastor Jerome Garrison (family counselor with Family & Children First), I decided to conduct interviews with family members who have last lost loved ones in the past five years. The documentary also included interviews with city leaders including Metro Louisville Police Chief Robert White. The documentary will bring a strong message because one of the volunteers for interviews was killed before the completion of the film. The result was a prime time showing on December 13, 2008 without commercial interruption.
