LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville is continuing its journey to healing following last year's mass shooting at Old National Bank.

Five people died when a gunman opened fire on his co-workers at the bank in downtown Louisville on April 10, 2023.

More than a year later, a Community Healing Garden was unveiled outside of the Louisville Ballet Headquarters on East Main Street.

Louisville Ballet CEO Leslie Smart created the garden with the help of award-winning, Kentucky-born landscaper Jon Carloftis.

Made with Flourish

The garden will serve as a place for reflection and solace, as well as a healing space from trauma caused by violence.

"Beauty makes people feel good and nature, so, I just don't know, how do you get through all that? But my thought is, looking to nature and God, because that is nature, that's mother nature, and that makes everybody feel better," Carloftis said.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and other local leaders were on hand for Wednesday's special dedication.

The garden is now open to the public.
