LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The reports from college football media days are on the record -- and they’re making me wonder which local program will demand fancier practice fields or recruiting lounges so they can WIN BIG.

Read it and flinch.

Louisville -- fifth in the Atlantic Division of the ACC.

Kentucky -- fifth in the East Division of the SEC.

Western Kentucky -- fifth in the East Division of Conference USA.

Indiana -- sixth in the East Division of the Big Ten (according to a poll by cleveland.com).

That’s the media preaching -- and media folks don’t always view the local programs as football juggernauts. I get that. So I recruited information from an observer who tries to take emotion out of his forecasts.

That would be Brian Edwards, a sports analyst at VegasInsider.com. Edwards is one of the top handicappers in the game. Underdog appears to be the "them" of this season for the local teams. (The link.)

Here are some of Edwards’ early local numbers on the 2018 season:

Season win totals (regular-season games only; conference championship games and bowls don't count, wagers declared win, loss or push after regular-season finale):

Western Kentucky 5 wins ('over' costs -150, risk $150 to win $100). The Hilltoppers went 6-6 before losing their bowl game to Georgia State.

Kentucky 5.5 wins (-115 either way). The Wildcats were 7-5 prior to a season-ending bowl loss to Northwestern last season.

Indiana 5 wins ('over' -140). Hoosiers 5-7 last season.

Louisville 7 wins (-115 either way). Cards won 8 regular-season games last season before losing to Mississippi State in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Purdue 6 wins ('under' -140). The Boilermakers were 6-6 before winning their bowl game last season.

Spreads for Games of the Year:

Kentucky +1 at Tennessee, Nov. 10.

Kentucky +8.5 at Louisville, Nov. 24.

Louisville +3.5 vs. FSU, Sept. 29.

Louisville +21.5 at Clemson, Nov. 3.

Louisville  -3 at Syracuse, Nov. 9.

Purdue +1 vs. Missouri, Sept. 15.

Purdue +18.5 vs. Ohio State, Oct. 20.

Purdue pick 'em at Indiana, Nov. 24.

And, of course, the spreads for the first week of the season.

Purdue -3 vs. Northwestern Aug. 30.

WKU + 34 1/2 at Wisconsin Aug. 31

IU - 10 1/2 at FIU Sept. 1.

Kentucky -17 vs. Central Michigan. Sept. 1.

Louisville +25 1/2 vs. Alabama (Orlando, Fla.) Sept. 1.
