LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's hard to believe, but back to school shopping is already here. With inflation raising prices the past four years, will you have to pay even more this year?
The nation's largest retailers have said they are trying to hold the line this year when it comes to back to school.
Like so many parents in recent years, they are realizing inflation has taken a bite out of their back-to-school budget. Meanwhile, some are surprised by the prices not going up as much as they assumed they would.
Both Walmart and Target have announced that they are holding prices on hundreds of school items at last year's level.
The bad news? Prices on school supplies are up 20% since the pandemic hit in 2020. Since last year, pens are markers are up 5%, and backpacks are up 4%.
Consumer reports suggest you grab these low prices now before it's too late, and if you have a sales tax holiday, but the more expensive items then.
