In dig at Beam, Brown-Forman promotes its "American owned" whisky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - In an apparent dig at competitor Beam Inc., two Brown-Forman whisky brands are promoting that they are "American owned."

"Time to support the local economy. #KentuckyProud #American Owned," Early Times wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday.

Old Forester, meanwhile, said about the same time on Facebook that it's "proud to be American owned since 1870."

Japanese beverage-maker Suntory announced a deal Monday to acquire Illinois-based Beam, which owns Kentucky bourbon brands such as Jim Beam and Maker's Mark.

Brown-Forman is headquartered in Louisville.
