2 dead, 2 others injured after shooting near Churchill Downs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after two people were killed and two others were hospitalized after a shooting late Tuesday near Churchill Downs.

It happened around 10 o'clock on June 22 at a home near the intersection of M Street and Rodman Street. Police say four people were shot -- three men, and one woman.

Two of those men, believed to be in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

The other two people were taken to University Hospital. There's no word yet on their condition.

People in the neighborhood were visibly upset after the shooting.

"I promise you if my brother is dead, I swear to God on my mama there's gonna be another homicide," said one man.

A woman we spoke with fears her nephew is one of the victims.

"I don't know if it's my nephew or not," said Janice Mitchell. "Only thing I heard -- his nickname is 'Fifty' - they said that Fifty was in there and he was one of the ones that didn't make it out."

"Rumors are going on that it's my son," said Donnie Compton. "I was home asleep, getting ready for work, and got the call that my son's been killed."

Investigators spent the night talking to witnesses and collecting evidence. The circumstances of what may have led up to the shooting are still under investigation.
