LMPD investigating after man's body found outside Newburg home

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD's homicide unit is trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in a Newburg-area neighborhood early Wednesday.

The victim was found on in the front yard of a home on Jeanine Drive off East Indian Trail around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Police say he had been shot at least once -- but haven't released any other details.

Neighbors say he lived in a brick home just a few feet away.

"I saw a police officer, and he was taping up the front yard," said Trevor Holtsclaw, who lives nearby. "And then as we drove by, I saw a man on his stomach, and he was naked."

Holtsclaw said he's in shock after the murder.

"It's a scary feeling, you know? I mean kids walk through here on the daily," Holtsclaw said.

Homicide detectives spent the morning looking for leads, carrying evidence out of the home and searching cars in the driveway.

LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says they're hoping someone knows something and comes forward.

"We would certainly say overnight if you heard or saw anything out of the ordinary please call the crime tip hotline, you might just have that missing piece of the puzzle," Smiley said.

"We have to remember that these are individuals, and they are people that are part of our community and have family members that are suffering as well."

That hotline number is 502-574-LMPD (5673). Callers can remain anonymous.
