Man accused of trying to rape employee at Subway near U of L

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a homeless man walked into a Louisville Subway restaurant and tried to rape a female employee.

The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Subway at 425 University Boulevard (formerly Warnock Street), near the University of Louisville's Belknap Campus.

Police say 32-year-old Demetrius Gordon walked into the business and exposed himself. According to an arrest report, he then followed a female employee to the back of the business, pushed her to the ground and tried to pull her pants off in an attempt to rape her.

That's when the woman grabbed a hammer, started swinging at him and dialed 911. Police say Gordon then ran away.

Gordon was arrested on a burglary charge the same day. While he was in custody, police say they were able to identify him as the Subway assailant.

He was charged with attempted rape and is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
