LOUISVIlLE, Ky. (WDRB) – LMPD is investigating two different robbery cases in which older people were attacked and robbed.
According to detectives, both assaults occurred within the last week. The first happened on Nov. 8, around 8:30 pm on Beechwood Avenue. Police say three black males robbed an 87-year old woman at gunpoint, hit her in the back of the head with a rifle and then kicked her repeatedly before running away with her purse.
The second happened on Nov. 11, around 9:15 pm on Highland Avenue.
“We feel like there is a connection,” said LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell. “It's scary one for anyone, certainly for these two folks it is terrifying.”
In the second case, police say the victim was a 66-year-old man. As was the same in the first case, police say he was hit in the head with a rifle and then kicked while on the ground. Detectives say he was able to yell out and when neighbors came to look, the suspects ran away.
“We have a few leads we're working on at this point, but we need the community's help,” Mitchell said.
At this point, LMPD’s description of the suspects is vague at best: three black males in their 20s dressed in all black, one had a plaid bandanna over his face, and they were driving a white older model sedan.
“Maybe we can get a better description of them because other people might have seen,” Mitchell said.
Both of the victims were hurt but are expected to be OK.
LMPD is asking anyone with information to call the crime tip line at 574-LMPD. All calls are anonymous.
