POLICE: St. Matthews shooting victim tackled his attacker

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Matthews Police have arrested a man authorities say shot a man in the stomach.

Donald Bratcher, 56, was arrested on Friday.

According to an arrest report, the shooting took place on Friday, July 20, in the parking lot of the Waterford Apartments.

Police responded to the 400 block of Regency Court, near Browns Lane and Kresge Way, on a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Authorities say the victim stated Bratcher approached him with a Remington 380 handgun in his hand. According to police, the victim also stated he tried to protect himself by tackling Bratcher, who shot him in the stomach during the struggle.

Investigators say the "victim was able to subdue" Bratcher until police arrived.

The victim was taken to U of L Hospital for treatment.

Bratcher and the victim did not know one another, according to officials.

Bratcher is charged with first-degree assault. He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $50,000 bond.
