Shelby County deputies use Taser on man accused of firing gun near several people, including children

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities say a Shelby County man who was aggressively waving and firing a gun in the presence of six people -- including two children -- had to be shocked with a Taser before he could be taken into custody.

According to arrest reports, deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office were sent to an apartment complex on Old Brunerstown Road, near the interchange between I-64 and Taylorsville Road, just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, after a woman called to report a domestic dispute.

Police say the woman told them 25-year-old Eric Stone was there and was refusing to relinquish custody of a child that he and she had in common.

When the deputies arrived, they allegedly saw Stone at the apartments, firing a gun into the air. Police say a total of nine people -- including two small children and three Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies -- were there when Stone fired the gun

Stone allegedly began walking toward the deputies, waving the gun around in an "aggressive" manner while arguing with the deputies. Authorities say he told them he wanted to be shot, he wasn't going to put the gun down and he didn't want to go to jail.

While negotiating with Stone, the deputies were able to rescue the other adults and children and get them away from the scene.

At that point, Stone allegedly tried to run back into the apartment, but the deputies were able to shoot him with a Taser and subdue him. According to the arrest report, the deputies found a .40 caliber Glock in his pocket with a round already in the chamber, as well as a loaded magazine.

Stone was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, fourth-degree domestic violence, menacing, resisting arrest, first-degree disorderly conduct and first-degree criminal mischief.

He is currently being held in the Shelby County Detention Center.
