LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Public Schools launched an online survey on student assignment Monday, hoping to gather community input as it contemplates changes to the way students are placed in schools.
“The survey offers another avenue for families and stakeholders to weigh in on the issues and values that are important to them as the district reviews and updates how students are assigned to school,” JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio said in a statement.
“Our goal is clear: maintain our commitment to a diverse learning environment and meet the needs of the community; to do that effectively, we need to hear from as many voices as possible.”
JCPS normally reviews and amends the student assignment plan every five to seven years, and the district must implement changes by the 2020-21 school year under a corrective action plan with the Kentucky Department of Education, which avoided a potentially lengthy legal battle after the state recommended taking over operations of JCPS.
The Jefferson County Board of Education is expected to consider proposed student assignment revisions in early 2019, according to a news release.
