LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer says he's against a state takeover of Jefferson County Public Schools -- and he says he explained that to the interim Kentucky Department of Education Commissioner.
Dr. Wayne Lewis met with the mayor on Friday. Fischer says Superintendent Marty Pollio made lots of changes to make JCPS better.
The mayor released a video statement Friday, after his meeting with Dr. Lewis.
"I'm opposed to a state takeover," Fischer said. "The changes driven by Dr. Pollio, as well as [JCPS'] implementation of the audit findings, should be given a chance to work."
Lewis is tasked with finishing an audit of the school district that was started 14 months ago. He can choose to take no action, put JCPS under state assistance, or call for a state takeover.
