LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County election officials have determined who will take the judicial seat left in limbo by the sudden death of Danny Alvarez.
Alvarez had the most votes in the primary election for the 9th Division judicial race, but a recanvass was requested before election officials could determine who would become the nominee.
Just 17 votes separated the next two candidates, Tanisha Ann Hickerson and Karen Faulkner.
Thursday morning all the totals were double-checked, and the results were the same. So Hickerson's name will be on the ballot in November.

Officials are taking a close look at the Republican nomination for the 43rd District State Representative seat, which includes part of Jefferson County. Everett Corley beat Denise Raine by nine votes.
Results from the recanvass were certified by the Jefferson County Board of Elections and will be sent to the Kentucky Secretary of State's Office.
