Patricia Hollins wiped away tears Friday talking about her granddaughter, 12-year-old Laraya Hill.
Laraya was killed earlier this week after she was hit by a car near Chickasaw Park. The driver didn't stop and is still on the run.
"I am having to be stronger than I ever thought I could be, because my daughter, she's not handling this," Hollins said of Laraya's mother. "We've had to hospitalize her. She's had to be sedated."
Cole's Place held a fundraiser Friday, and community members stopped by to help with hugs and donations. They're raising money so the family can pay for funeral costs. Anything raised above that will go toward a reward fund.
"I know that having a reward will increase the chances of someone saying something," Hollins said.
Anyone who wants to help Laraya's family can contact Cole's Place. Anyone with information on the driver should call 574-LMPD.
