LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The first Black Friday shoppers have lined up outside the Best Buy in St. Matthews, looking to score the best deals of the season.
Bucky Roth of Jeffersontown took a week off from work to be the first in line. He says he started camping outside Best Buy ahead of Black Friday five years ago, and met so many great people, he keeps coming back every year.
"We just like to get away," said the avid camper. He's been outside the store since Sunday morning.
Roth said they may keep one of the two TVs, but for the most part, they were buying gifts for family members.
"$199 for a 50-inch TV?" he said. "Even if you don't need it, you have to get it."
Best Buy opens its doors on Thanksgiving at 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, small businesses across Louisville are promoting local holiday shopping by offering deals and giveaways.
Frankfort Avenue will host "Shop Small on the Avenue" from Friday, Nov. 28 through Sunday, Nov. 30. Fourteen local eateries and retailers have donated items for the contest, and the items will be displayed at each of their locations.
Shoppers can pick up a contest form at any of the participating businesses, and every time they make a purchase at a participating business, they will get a stamp. Once three stamps have been collected, shoppers can drop off their contest form at the business whose prize they want to win.
The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) is also offering incentives to shop local.
According to LIBA, shoppers can collect receipts from five member businesses by January 5, mail in or present the receipts for review at one of the sponsor sites (Revelry Boutique Gallery or Feeders Supply), and be entered into a drawing to win $1000 in gift certificates. Customers can also tag #holLOUdays in social media posts to be entered to win $250 in gift certificates.
