Five-year-old child hit and killed Monday by Butler County school bus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A five-year-old child was hit and killed by a school bus in Butler County, Ky., on Monday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police say a Butler County school bus was stopped around 3:30 p.m. unloading a child at a home on KY 70, about 25 miles northwest of Bowling Green. During the process, Jayden Hawkins, 5, of Morgantown, Ky., was hit by the bus and killed.

Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County Coroner.

Local media reports the kindergartner had just gotten off the bus at his grandmother's house and was hit as the bus was pulling away.

The Butler County school district released a statement saying the 54-old-driver has had a near-perfect driving record since she's been with the district for 18 years.

Counselors will be available to meet with students this week.

Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation.
