Hurstbourne residents accuse Topgolf of lying about lighting change

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hurstbourne residents opposed to the planned Topgolf at Oxmoor Center say the driving range has been playing Louisville.

Louisville Neighbors for Responsible Growth called a news conference Thursday to spell out their case. They said Topgolf hasn't proposed anything to fix potential traffic issues that the facility could cause.

They also say that when Topgolf told residents that they came up with a new lighting plan to accommodate them, they they lied. They claim that same lighting had already been used at other locations. In fact, the neighborhood group said the lighting expert Topgolf hired has never actually been to one of its locations.

"He has never seen these lights in action at any Topgolf," said Steve Porter, an attorney representing Louisville Neighbors for Responsible Growth. "I've been to eight of them. I've seen them in action, and those lights are horrendous."

A spokesman for Topgolf responded to the claims late Thursday afternoon, saying, in part: "Topgolf at Oxmoor Center will produce more than 1 million lumens of light LESS than what is being produced today by just the parking lot lights in that southeast corner of the parking lot. For the very closest residents ... they should welcome this massive reduction in light from what exists today."
