LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Tests confirm the illness that killed one Indiana inmate and made dozens more sick is a flu virus.
State officials say inmates at the Putnamville Correctional Facility west of Indianapolis were infected with the H1N1 virus. It's a strain of the swine flu.
Officials say they're taking "very specific steps" to keep it from spreading, including thoroughly cleaning the prison.
A coroner says one inmate died Friday after developing severe, flu-like symptoms.
Thirty-five additional inmates and at least five employees showed symptoms. More than a dozen are in a Terre Haute hospital, with two in the intensive care unit.
