Parents address first day at JCPS; transportation issues

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Board members said yes to a new contract for bus drivers at a meeting Monday night.

Local Union 783 workers approved the collective bargaining agreement July 21.

The agreement, which extended the contract to 2019, will not just benefit bus drivers. It also includes the district's mechanics, security guards, maintenance workers and grounds crew.

It allows them to take personal time in half-day increments, if they chose to do so. It also increases their reimbursement for safety equipment such as steel-toed boots from $80 to $100.

If they pick up what the district deems a "troubled" route, they'll get an extra $2 an hour.

The contract also says wage talks can be brought up every year.

Bus drivers will start bidding on their routes on Tuesday.
