LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metro Police are searching for suspects after one man was killed and a pregnant woman was injured in a shooting at a downtown Louisville apartment complex Tuesday evening.
Officials say the victims were shot in Building A of the Dosker Manor public housing complex near Preston St. and Muhammad Ali Blvd. around 5:50 p.m. They say the shooting occurred in and around an elevator on the 12th floor of the building.
Police say the two victims were taken to University Hospital where the man -- who has since been identified as 29-year-old Richard Spencer -- was pronounced dead. The woman -- who was 40 weeks pregnant -- was in serious condition after undergoing surgery Tuesday evening. Police say the baby was saved after an emergency C-section.
On Wednesday morning, police said both the woman and her baby are expected to be fine.
Spencer was a resident of Dosker Manor and police say he was apparently confined to a wheelchair. They say Spencer was in a dispute with the suspect/s, but wouldn't expand on what the fight was about.
Police say the woman was simply "at the wrong place at the wrong time."
"She was there visiting someone and just got caught up randomly in the gunfire," said Lt. Todd Kessinger of LMPD Homicide.
Police say Spencer was shot multiple times in the torso, while the woman was shot twice in the abdomen.
Police have not determined a motive in the shootings and are still searching for a suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD (574-5673).
