LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are still searching for a man who disappeared in early June. His friends and family believe he might have been on his way from Louisville to Manchester, Tennessee to attend the Bonnaroo Music Festival.
Police say 27-year-old Bret Broffman Jr. was last confirmed to be in Louisville on Monday, June 5. LMPD Detective Mike Lauder said Broffman made a purchase at a local store in Louisville that afternoon.
Authorities say his car was then found on Veterans Outer Loop near Franks Mill Road in Glasgow, Kentucky on June 7. It was abandoned and not broken down, according to Lauder. The detective said there were many items found in the car, but he could not be very specific since it is an active case.
"There's other unusual circumstances around the case," said Lauder. "Some of which we just aren't able to reveal at this point."
Broffman's friends believe he might have been heading to the Bonnaroo Music Festival.
"I don't know if he stopped to help somebody," wondered Brandon Hall, one of Broffman's good friends. "I could see someone taking advantage of how nice this man is. Like, he was a flat out genuine person."
Detective Lauder said there was camping gear in the car, consistent with going to a music festival. Police have the car in their possession for further investigation. Detectives are still looking through cell phone and bank records, as well.
LMPD is still treating this as a missing persons case. Detective Lauder said he is not currently willing to call this a recovery situation. Broffman's family and friends continue to stay positive and have hope he will be found.
"I do not believe we're searching for a body," said Hall. "He's 100 percent out there. I know it, I know it."
Investigators say Broffman is 5'10 and weighs 140 pounds.
Anyone with information on Broffman's whereabouts is asked to call 574-LMPD or the Glasgow Police Department at 270-651-5151.
