Louisville man arrested after elderly man fatally stabbed at gas station

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing that happened at a gas station over the weekend.

Police say 32-year-old Charles L. Richardson stabbed 74-year-old Paul Cason at the Shell Station at 1123 South Floyd Street, near St. Catherine on Sunday afternoon.

Richardson was arrested in the 1100 block of West Muhammad Ali Boulevard, near South 12th Street. Police say a firearm was found inside Richardson's home at the time he was arrested.

Richardson was booked into Metro Corrections just before 2 a.m. Tuesday. He is charged with murder, robbery and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Richardson walked into the gas station and stabbed Cason once, according to officials. Police say after stabbing Cason, Richardson took items from Cason and fled the gas station on a red mountain bike.

Cason was taken to U of L Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries, authorities say.

Investigators say Richardson was positively identified by witnesses. Records say he was also seen on surveillance video.

Police say the attack was unprovoked.

Richardson is being held on a $500,000 full cash bond.
