LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was shot and killed in the Algonquin neighborhood late Thursday night.

It happened on Burwell Avenue near South 22nd Street. That's where police were called on reports of a shooting around 11:30 p.m. LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says officers found the victim, a man believed to be in his 40s, in a yard outside a home. Police say he died at the scene.

The LMPD Homicide Unit and Evidence technicians remained at the scene for several hours overnight, looking for anything that could lead to a suspect, but so far investigators don't have any leads.

"We're still trying to learn specifically what led up to this incident," Smiley said. "There were no injuries to anyone else. We're uncertain specifically if we're looking for one or more suspects."

Anyone with information is asked to call the crime tip line at 574-LMPD. Callers can remain anonymous.
