LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Ten tons of medical supplies and equipment is headed to Sierra Leone thanks to the Louisville chapter of Supplies Overseas.
Items including hospital beds, crutches, wheelchairs and much more were loaded into a 40-foot long shipping container on Friday. The supplies will furnish the first hospice clinic in Sierra Leone.
When Hosparus Louisville was paired up with the new center in Africa, it turned to Supplies Over Seas for help. Supplies Over Seas then rounded up donations from hospitals in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.
"When we send something as small as a box it could be more than their clinic will ever have in a given year," said Supplies Over Seas President Melissa Mershon. "So think what this organization will do when they receive 10 tons of supplies."
Some Hosparus employees have also been having donations taken from their paychecks to help support the center.
