MADISON, Ind. (WDRB) -- Police in Madison, Indiana are investigating, after a man shot himself inside a hospital emergency room.
Jefferson County, Indiana Sheriff John Wallace tells WDRB that a 58-year-old man from Texas walked into the emergency room at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, about 12:30 p.m. Thursday and shot himself with a handgun.
The man was wounded and treated for his injuries. At last report, he was in critical condition after being transferred to another hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known.
The hospital was on a lockdown, but Wallace said the "threat has been neutralized." The hospital was given the "all clear" following the incident and is still operating. He said the emergency room is open for anyone needing help.
Wallace said it does not appear the hospital or anyone at the hospital was a target of this man; however, any possible motives are under investigation. Officers don’t know why he came to the ER with the gun.
No one else was hurt in the incident.
