National Park Service celebrates 100 years of service

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – On August 25, 2016, the National Park Service turns 100!

The National Park Service is celebrating by inviting visitors of all ages to visit all 412 national parks for free from August 25 through August 28.

National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis says the parks look pretty good for 100.

"With so many events and activities to commemorate this milestone, we hope all Americans will join us to celebrate the breathtaking landscapes and inspiring history in our nation's parks and public lands," Jarvis said. "Whether it is in a distant state or in your own community, there are hundreds of ways and places to find your park."
